's it, I leave Gander! When Bill
This Sunday is my last day in Gander ... theoretically. My flight to Halifax is expected this afternoon at 2:20 p.m. ET jubilant happiness I think of this departure. I turn on the TV and I zap among the thirty or so channels available to TV weather channel. Bill, tropical storm, moves on to the coast of Nova Scotia and it probably will hit Halifax this afternoon. Acquired by conscience, I went down to the reception of the hotel where I can read the flight times for free internet service. Let's see ... Air Canada, Gander - Halifax flight canceled :-( Nooo! Even the weather is against me! Total disarray ... I call once my "tour" which confirms the cancellation of my flight this after noon wait and wonder (again ...) until a new route.
The weather is gray and I too. A few hours later, I receive a fax at the reception to inform me about my new course (the fourth): Gander - St. John's coach, then St John's - Halifax tomorrow, Monday, Halifax - New York - Paris (arrival Wednesday August 26, morning). Hotels in St. John's and Halifax reserved. What an adventure! The bus to St John's (capital of Newfoundland located on the Avalon Peninsula on the east coast) will leave the airport at 17:00. New calls to my relatives to warn them of an extra day shift.
Patience ...
I release the room around 13:00 and went to the airport by taxi. Few hours of waiting terminal in this province, with this magnificent exhibition of daring early aviators who crossed the Atlantic, and the bus to St John's happening. The 322km that separates us from our destination, are looped over 4 hours on a bus very comfortable. On the Trans sinking through the pine forests, the weather is very dark and the closer to St John's, plus the fog thickens.
arrived at the bus station, we end up more passengers in a similar situation: to find a taxi that took us to a hotel near the airport. In talking with another passenger of the bus, I suggest share of the race. She did not have time to book a room and the driver called the hotel to see if a room is available. Luckily, this is the last. During the trip, she tells me her story that has something in common with mine: a week after my flight from Paris to Boston, so yesterday she was the cause of a diversion of aircraft to Gander. Welcome to the club! She fainted in flight and the captain had no choice other than an emergency landing at Gander. Returned to her, she was placed under observation in hospital and was able to get out after a few hours. She is a physicist, an American citizen, originally from Yugoslavia and must return to his home in Pittsburg at the earliest, despite Bill. A nod from the everyday!
arrived at the hotel it was already late. Tomorrow, Halifax ... Every day his sentence! The key was to have left Gander. Good night ;-)
